Best Bird Themed Gifts For A Knitter [Gift Guide]

This is the second gift guide to be produced as a result of my recent offer to compile a personalized gift guide for any reader who asks me to!

The backstory – I had a little whinge about receiving generic gifts on my birthday (sorry hubby).  Here is the link: Why It’s Hard To Find Great Gifts Bird Lovers Will Adore [I can help you].

At the end of that post, I made a ‘too good to refuse’ offer to compile a personalized gift guide with some great bird-themed gift ideas for any five readers, so long as they told me a teeny bit more about who the gift guide should be tailored towards.  A bird-loving school teacher? A budgie loving bodybuilder?  A moody teen with a budgie as a trusty confidant?

Offer No. 1 was snapped up by Clara N.  She requested a gardening/bird themed gift guide.  Read it here:  11 Bird Themed Gifts Garden Lovers Will Really Dig [Gift Guide].

I am happy to announce that Gift Guide No 2. has been claimed by Demara S.  She would love a gift guide suitable for her knitting (and bird) obsessed sister Beaulah.

Demara (and Beaulah) – this one is for you – I hope you like it!

Yarn and Needle Carry Bag

For knitting on the go and to keep all your supplies secure, this super cute bird patterned storage bag would make a perfect gift! Fully lined inside with a roomy main compartment and a handy side pocket.  It measures 15cm (w) x 45cm (l) x 17cm (h).

Sharp Tip Scissors – Pack of 3

The classic ‘stork’ design scissors favorited by generations of sewers and stitchers.  Best for fine threads and light yarns, these comfort-grip scissors are made with sharp, stainless steel blades and are long-nosed for precision cutting. This a 3 pack of assorted designs with scissors in 2 sizes – 1 x 4.5 inch and 2 x 3.6 inch.

Yarn Bowl with Bird Motif

Oh my, this is just adorable! What could be more satisfying than knitting by a warm fire on a cold winter night and watching the yarn slowly unravel through the yarn bowl guide and onto your needles?  A yarn bowl is a practical way of containing those wayward balls to stop them from rolling under your chair and being chased by the cat! This particular adorable design features a cute bird on the outside and can be custom engraved with a name or sentiment. Measures 6.6 inches (diameter) x 3.8 inches (h)  (17cm x 9.5cm)

Parrot Stitch Markers – Set of 4

Stitch markers are a must-have for a knitter who wants to knit something a little more complicated than a scarf.  A marker acts as a stitch ‘placeholder’ for easily identifying when to increase, decrease or do even more tricky things! And these ones are just right for a bird-loving knitter!  These birdies are a four-piece set – two white, two blue as pictured, made from enameled, nickel-free metal and will fit needles up to size 3.5mm (US 5).

Winter Hat – PDF Pattern

Don’t let the fancy title of this Etsy listing deter you… passerines… pfft – a fancy name for a bunch of perching birds to me! And a very desirable piece of headgear for a bird-loving human.  This pattern is cautioned as an ‘intermediate’ level pattern, and requires knowledge of knitting in the round, stranded colorwork and reading from a chart.

Australian Bird Buttons

Handmade is beautiful!  And so are these buttons featuring a variety of Australian birds, including – yes you guessed it – BUDGIES!  Made in Australia, machine washable, and available in a variety of sizes and quantities, I can’t think of anything more perfect to finish off a hand-knitted cardigan or sweater.

Book of Knitted Birds

Fancy some cold weathered birds to add Norwegian flair to your flock?  Look no further than ‘The Field Guide To Knitted Birds’ by Arne and Carlos.  It’s a substantial 176 page hardcover pattern book offering over 40 handmade, whimsical and worldly bird designs.  These cuties will liven up any room and are sure to raise a smile.

Knitting Needle Storage Roll

Keep all your knitting needles organized in this practical bird patterned fabric needle roll.  The 15 segmented pockets ensure pairs of needles remain together and makes it easy to identify the size of each pair. Rolls up compactly and is secured with a ribbon tie around.  Measures 48cm x 37cm.

Bird Silhouette Stitch Markers – Set of 5

Yep -more stitch markers.  Just like budgies – you can’t have too many!  This set of 5 Tibetan silver markers can be purchased attached to rings, lever-back or on lobster claw clasps, as per personal preference. 10mm rings will fit on needles up to 6.5mm (US 10.5)

Crochet Budgie – PDF Pattern

Okay – I may have cheated a little here by including a crochet pattern into a knitting themed gift guide.  But can you blame me? Seriously – how cute is this! Fully customizable to replicate the coloring and patterning of a real budgie, with detailed instructions and over 100 photos, this 18 page tutorial might just convert a knitting fan to crochet.

Large Project (aka Stash) Bag

Much bigger than the first gift idea, this is THE bag to stash all that yarn or any UFO’s (unfinished objects). Four internal pockets will keep smaller items from being lost and the wide opening allows a jolly good rummage deep into the abyss. Fully lined, padded and made with blue and white bird patterned fabric, its the perfect stash bag for a bird loving knitter. Measures approx. 14 inches x 12 inches.

And that, my friends, is the end of this very fun to research, custom gift guide for Demara.

I hope you find the perfect knitting themed gift for Beaulah – (my hot tip – the yarn bowl or the woolen hat).

If you love this guide but don’t have a bird crazy knitter to buy for, remember that my offer for a personalized gift guide is still open! Only three guides left to claim though, so be quick…
